7 Week Itch

We hit the 7 week post-op mark this past weekend! Keeping Moose contained before the move was a little challenging (or so I thought) but post-move it has been nearly impossible. The move completely messed up our routine and started this slippery slope to more and more freedom that is something akin to senior-itis or a' 7 year itch' (ok, week in our case) since the first phase of his recovery is hopefully drawing to a close (at 8 weeks)! This weekend I really sealed the deal by packing up his pen and crate! I decided this was ok because my new office has a door directly to the outside so I can close him in there when I leave and when I come home walk right into that room. It has a french door too so he actually likes it in there b/c he can lie on his bed AND look out the window! At night I bring him into my room and close the door so I don't find him on the couch when I get up in the morning and I have also left my mattress on the floor instead of putting my bed together and he loves having easy access to the bed and has been treating it like it is his own bed! So it is more freedom but his activity is still a little restricted...

We have our 6 week checkup tomorrow (1 weeks late) so he will be x-rayed and checked out and we will see how well I have (or have not) done with his recuperation. In theory the schedule goes that at 8 weeks the bone has healed so they are cleared for normal activity however they have a lot of gradual strengthening to do due to muscle atrophy (his new nick name is Jelly-leg) and general 'breaking in' of the new knee structure. Hopefully that is what will happen. I have a sort of dreadful feeling that there will be trouble and the form that it could take is 1. patellar tendonitis (common but relatively minor complication), 2. screw or hardware problems, 3. delayed or improper bone growth (which could signal more serious problems), 4. torn meniscus (this is generally pretty painful so I would probably know if it were torn) 5. scolding from the surgeon about Moose's early release!
Hopefully I will have some good news to post tomorrow!

  4. Moose...buddy!! I love your new digs..it's all gonna be ok boy. Oh I have that same ball that you've got there on the bed, mine's name is Comet. We go in another 2 weeks and then mom has the same idea...to put the mattress down on the floor, right now we're still sleeping in the den. All is good on my end...I missed you Moose!!
