Meet Jake!

Just today my brother started fostering a dog through the Labrador Retriever Club of Potomac. His name is Jake and he is a 5 year old black lab who was found as a stray. We don't know much more about him but my brother says he is a little thin and although he weighs about 70 lbs he should probably weigh a bit more. If you go to their website you can read about how 54 labs were recently confiscated from a bad breeder and are in need of lots of care and foster or furever homes. If you or someone you know is looking for a lab and lives in DC Maryland or Virginia, please check out this site to see if you can help!
For now we would like to welcome Jake, Moose's foster cousin, to the family! Moose wants to meet him but I explained that he is like a thousand miles away!
PS Anyone have any advice on how to healthfully put weight on an adult labradog? Is it best to just up the kibble? Will it help to use puppy kibble since it is higher calorie? No signs that he is a picky eater or anything, he probably just has not had good access to food. He is not drastically underweight so maybe normal meals will work best?

  4. Welcome to Jake.

A skinny labradog? How did that happen? So sad. I don't know what he should eat, but I am sure he will eat lots of whatever he gets.

  7. Hi Jake!! another handsome one! Just tell your foster daddy to feed you good quality food with a little bit of a higher fat content, and you'll be fine. A BIG THANKS to your brother for fostering him : ) We need more people like that in the world.

  11. Aw Moose! Jake is fantastic. The story of the labs is so sad. Dogs should not be commodities. I think Jake will be ok cuz he's got the greatest cousin ever.

My brudder and sister were both underweight when I adopted them and my ma ape slowly put weight on them with regular meals and lots of(healthy) snacks throughout the day. My sissy was a challenge because she is a picky eater. But sometimes just little things like an egg on top of the kibble helps. Oscar was funny cuz he eats ANYTHING but he eats like a horse and is STILL skinny. She says I'm funny because even though I was apparently skinny when animal control picked me up by the time she adopted me from my foster mom I was already pudged up!

ps. O.Bean loves his JUG and so far so good with using it appropriately.
