Spawning Madness 2009 + Visitors & FAQ

Hey Blogger Buddies!
Tonight is the first night that we go out to the reef to see if the corals are spawning which means lots of late nights for me over the next week or so. Fortunately Moose will not be lonely since his Girlfriends from Miami (Swissie and Jetta) will be slumming it down here in the Keys with us. Our back yard is no where near as interesting as theirs but I think they will be pretty happy to see Moose!
If it is Spawning time then it is also time for the Perseid Meteor showers! The Earth is passing through a dusty part of the galaxy (maybe under a couch or something) so there will be some spectacular shows if you can catch them. If you live in a city it might be hard b/c of light pollution but out in the boonies where it is dark at night go out and have a look!
Read more about it here: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/31jul_perseids2009.htm
They will peak on August 12 but you will probably see plenty as that approaches and just after it.
Also there were a few questions over the last few posts that I meant to answer!
In Moose's Bag-o-phobia video some of you commented about what we were watching on TV. Yes, indeed you were correct. It is a show on Animal Planet called 'Its me or the dog!' with trainer Victoria Stillwell. It is an awesome show and has given us lots of ideas on how to train to fix certain behaviors but it also teaches you a lot about the causes of some bad habits that hopefully your dog does not have, but understanding it is a good way to prevent it! Moose loves to watch it but I always tell him not to get any ideas when he sees dogs jumping on counters and such!
Another question was about the treats we use. Honey did a great post about treats awhile back and if you read you will see that using really exciting treats gets the best response. We have actually been using very boring treats for a few reasons. 1. Moose has an incredibly good attention span and focus so I know what it takes to get his attention and it is not much! 2. When I bring out stuff like chicken and such he gets sooo excited he is almost more distracted. 3.The tricks we have been working for of late have been fairly simple and I know I can get away with the plain jane treats. I plan to start working on getting him to sit stay while I greet guests and we will be bringin out the big guns for that. Chicken, cheese and possibly Honey's Liver recipe if we have time. When there is a visitor competing for his attention it will take a lot to keep it on me so some 'most yummers foodables' (as the Mango would say) are in order.

P.S. I won't bore you pups with coral spawning details here but if you are interested in hearing what happens you can read follow this blog: http://acroporaspawn.blogspot.com/. It is kind of dry science stuff but some pictures have made it in last years posts and may in this years too!
Here is a video of what it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOpNX5W2H4M
