Señor Moose

On Saturday momma called the vet because it seems there was some numbers that were higher than they were supposed to be in the blood they took last week. It was nothing to be too worried about but momma thought it might be because I eat high protein kibble that has been supplemented lately by lots of chicken and such.
This is when the vet lady had the nerve to call me, brace yourself... a senior Moose! At first I thought this was just a south Florida salutation (as in 'Hola Señor Moose!') but guess not because Momma was quite put off by it!

I guess I have some silvery highlights on my beak and between my toes but no one calls Anderson Cooper (aka the silver fox) a senior so obviously being a silver Moose does not mean I am a senior!

I would not care but this lady went on to suggest that I needed a 'life stages' kibble. We are not sure what this is but pretty sure it is something they sell at the vet and is likely to be far less yummy than my kibbles. I told momma to tell them that what they are sellin', I ain't buyin'! Still I need to pee in a cup to get to the bottom of this. I was scheduled for my de-lumping and toofer cleaning on Monday but Momma was annoyed with the vet lady and called back to reschedule with the usual vet lady so this bought me another day before I go under the knife (gulp!).

In the mean time I would like to submit the following nightly kibble time routine as evidence that I am still a vigorous young pup and that there is nothing wrong with my kibble!

From Momma- Moose's blood panel revealed high-normal creatinine and BUN numbers which can indicate compromised kidney function but she was not worried enough to delay his lump removal. I understand that a high protein diet or dehydration can result in the numbers being a little off so she wants to do urinalysis just to check. Moose drinks lots of water a few times a day instead of drinking throughout the day and she suggested trying to get him to drink more but I say you can lead a Moose to water but you can't make him drink! We are not too worried yet but will feel better when we get a better test. Still, we would appreciate some pawsitive thoughts that this and the lumps turn out to be nothing.

  1. No wonder you have gray in your face. First your mom plays dumb when you are starving and then she makes you work for your kibbles. A guy could starve to death!

I, myself, just pound me tail on the floor with great vigor and make cute face.

I hope everything goes OK at the vet for you. Please do keep us posted.

    Slobbers,

  2. Woooos! I may be a Senora female husky, but if they try to take my kibble away, someone might loose some toes! I hope all goes well at the vet and I will be keeping my paws crossed and sending Sibe-Vibes!

  3. First off - a little grey makes us distinguished. nothing wrong with that! Secondly I am SURE it was SENOR and not SENIOR, as you said you do live in S. FL. anyways, no matter what....you are a handsome Moose and i'm sure your bloodwork will be ok. Mom too recently got a phone call back from the vet talking about elevated Copper in my blood work. We are not worrying about it right now, i've been thru too much lately.

  4. I gotta side with Mango on that video... that seems like cruel and unusual punishment if I ever saw it. I've never seen a contraption like that where you can only get a few bits of food at a time. OMD I hope no one ever does that to me!

  5. Jack has one of the jugs - we use Cheerios in it. BUT, the rope only lasted about 2 minutes. So now he throws it down on the floor to get the Cheerios out. I'm surprised it hasn't broken yet!

  6. Hi Moose,
I saw you over on Jack's blog so I decided to visit. I'm glad I did.
I got a real lol out of Senior Moose.I'm a 7 year old kitty (3/11/02). In September Mom rec'd a notice that it was time for my Senior Cat check up. Well, Mom said what the heck Madi you are young and spry and to top it off I was just at the vet on July 25. You were 7 then why didn't they do it then?!! I'm gray and white so I don't have any silver hairs (that you can see).

  9. btw, that treat ball has been handy at getting Darwin to eat breakfast! She usually doesn't eat much in the morning, and then eats her breakfast and dinner at dinner time. But now with she's pushing the ball around eating her breakfast at breakfast time! woo hoo!

  12. OH Moose, I'm so sorry I have not been able to visit for a while and I totally missed your whole kibble/pee saga!

Wow - I have to say - that's a really cool way to eat your dinner!

    Slobbers,
    Honey the Great Dane
ps. (From Hsin-Yi) it is freaky but watching Moose in this video, he seems so "Dane-like"!! Just the way he picks up the container and shoves it at you - and then walks around in a circle - and especially the shape of his head - it reminds me of Honey's mannerism so much! Seriously, if Moose isn't part-Dane, I'll eat my hat!
