Sick Puppy

Yesterday I gave Moose a rawhide and he chewed on it for awhile then it was gone! Since most things that should last a long time with him don't (Greenie=2 min, Busy Bone=10min) I was not that worried, then later in the day he threw up, I did not connect the two until he threw up again and there was a large chunk of still rolled rawhide in the mix! So I figured he got it out and gave him dinner which he promptly threw up too. The rest of the evening he was restless and really seemed miserable but would wander up and look at me when he needed to go out to throw up (now that is house broken!). So I read online a bit and found that you can give dogs pepto bismol for an upset stomach made a 1am run to the Circle K and found some to give him. Fortunately he was able to lie down and seemed to be comfortable after that. Phew! I felt like the worst mom in the world! I knew choking was a danger with rawhides and remembered that you are supposed to take away the pieces when they are small enough that they could swallow but I thought that was all b/c of choking risk but now I understand! Poor baby boy! Even though he had stopped throwing up I took him to the vet this morning- I wanted to find one anyway so the timing was good at least. So he got a full wellness exam and was diagnosed with an acute case of stupid mom-itis but other that all was well. Plus he was beside himself excited there and at the county shelter where we went to get his license. He really loves being told how handsome he is by people 8-) Tonight things are pretty much back to normal and he has been able to catch up on his stuffed animal gutting (pic)! Don't worry- I take the pieces away once they are small enough to swallow!
