Special Delivery from Dirtville!

So you guys remember a few weeks ago when Stumpy hosted the Khatch me if you Khan Khontest? Well I Won! Ok, Momma says I did not really win win but a package I received in the mails today is proof to the contrary! I won cookies which means I won! Ok... really Wyatt won because he caught 25 pieces of cheese before his parents ran out so maybe could have caught more! I think that Wyatt's parents are better at throwing than my momma who throws like a girl!

So anyways, I get this package that smells so delicious that I have to admit I forgot my manners a bit...

Can you blame me? They smelled so delicious! They smelled like Peanut Butter, Bananas and pumpkin! Which are my favorite non-meats food group foods!

Plus, Mandy was hanging around sucking in her tummy trying to look skinny so momma would let her go off her diet.  So of course I had to make sure I got them!
Then look who else crept in... Flat Brutus! So now I am splitting my winnings with TWO other doggies??? I don't think so!

But of course Mandy does her whole irresistible look thing and shows off her new found understanding of the 'wait' command and momma gave her one!

You're so little Brutus, you can't possibly eat all of that by yourself!
Then Momma made me share with Flat Brutus who is of course a guest and it is the only polite thing to do (grumbles!)

There are still some left so there might be a midnight pantry raid planned for when momma goes to bed!

Thanks Stumpy & Alphonso & Fenway! And extra thanks for your support of Khyra and her mom's rescue efforts! They really deserve it !
Oh and more thanks for devising this ingenious 'Khontest' that tricked momma into handing out loads of treats! Brilliant!

Stumpy's Khatch Me if You Khan Khontest

Stumpy is hosting a khool Khontest for Khyra and her mom who spend every Sunday morning transporting homeless doggies to give them a second chance. Whoever catches the most treats in a row will have a gas card donated in their name.
Sounds easy huh... Well momma is not the best videographer to begin with and she is not all that great at throwing treats so you can imagine it did not go well when she tried to do both at the same time! So she just held the camera and paid attention to tossing the treats and as you can see from the footage I am a bit cut off! Still, it was my best score so she wanted to enter it anyway! Unfortunately momma got confused about the deadline and she might have sent my video in too late. Still, it was lots of fun!

Lucky thing the vet wants me to eat more because it took lots of tries!

Dog Pile!

I am entering Biggie Z's Dog Pile Contest! Here is my official entry photo:

I sat there while she put these 16 things on me:
  1. remote control
  2. leopard squeaky
  3. small box
  4. computer mouse
  5. Red loopy dog
  6. bungee bunny
  7. orange lizard
  8. yellow squeaker bone
  9. blue lizard
  10. moose squeaker
  11. bah humbug wiener dog
  12. tennis ball tug
  13. rope bone
  14. squatter bunny
  15. iphone cord
  16. tool time glasses
Momma says the tool time glasses may not count because I am wearing them which I find a shame because that was the hardest part!

She was shocked that I sat still but she was visiting some of the other entries and talkin' trash about how I would never sit still so I just had to show her! She tried to make me lay on my side but I wouldn't do it. I must admit I had a little trouble trying not to wag my tail though. Momma would giggle and I would start wagging and she giggled more and I wagged more and we had to start over a few times.

Of course, enough is enough and after the photo-op I had to check some of these things out.

So there you have it... My dog pile!
This contest is an officially sponsored event as part of Mango Minster 2010. Be sure to stop by and check out the action!

Note from Momma: Moose knows that 'wait' means to stay put so that helped a lot but also I FINALLY found a use for the 'put your beak down' command I taught him ages ago! When I give that command he will rest his head like he is sleeping. Not terribly useful until now ;-)

Not the Tricky T-Day Contest & Inspiration

We just realized that today is the deadline for Ludo's Not the Tricky T-Day contest so Moose wanted to enter one of his favorite non-tricks... Couch Surfing! Though in the interest of full disclosure, it was taken while watching his favorite show: 'It's Me or the Dog' He will stop and watch the Tee Vee when he sees or hears dogs on it but when this show is on he will sometimes plant himself down and watch quite attentively! Hopefully since it is a show about tricks and training it will not get us disqualified from the Not-Trick contest!

It was easy to get these pics because it has been a lazy rainy saturday on a long weekend, so what could be better than snuggling up and zoning out! Of course when the thunder starts he heads off to the storm shelter for safety but once it passes and he hears dogs barking on the Tee Vee then he will come out!

UPDATE: Voting is up at Ludo's! Head over and vote for my Moose! You just need to click the box #32 on the right sidebar. http://ludwigvanpup.blogspot.com/

Also, our buddy Parker gave us an award for providing inspiration during his TPLO surgery recovery. Moose had the same surgery a week before him and it has been nice to have a buddy to share the ups and downs with! We were really touched that he thought of us. We would like to pass the award onto Honey and Ludo who have been very inspirational in our latest training efforts! I had sort of let some of my Moose training goals slide in the past year and they have helped get me motivated again and it has been fun and rewarding! Thanks pups!

Slobberific!

We were very excited to see that Moose won the prop-assisted slobber category over at Honey's Spectacular Slobber contest! His winning entry demonstrated the true strength of his slobber! The amazing thing is, there were days where the strings of gravel were even longer, this is just the one time I managed to get it on camera ;-) Not too shabby though! Thanks to everyone who voted for Moose and Congrats to the other Winners: Mango, Max and Raja.

Moose's response to this news was (note the drool slung over his beak):
Thanks Honey!

Slobber Contest Entry

Some of you may know that Honey is hosting a Spectacular Slobber contest. Here is one of our entries, it is not much but considering its striking resemblance to the Beer label we thought it worthy of posting! Ok, perhaps not striking exactly but you catch our drift!

Our real entry was captured just a few moments later...

Note that it is touching the ground and running over the edge of the patio!
Here it is from another angle to demonstrate its staying power! You may want to bigify these pics to get a full appreciation for the drool!
We will also be entering his Gravel Beak look into the "Prop-Assisted" category. Yes those are small rocks and leaves stuck in his drool!

Labradanes and drool contest practice

I have a traffic feed thingy on my blog that tells me about visitors to this page and how they got here and I noticed awhile ago that my post "Who's your daddy...Is Moose a Labra-dane?" gets lots of hits from people googling Labradane! I had no idea that was an actual word until I noticed this and lots of people think they have accidental mixes and apparently some are even bred intentionally. Well, One of these googlers left a comment about his guy Oscar, and has even started his own blog about him! You should check him out: http://labradane-sillybigdog.blogspot.com/. He is new to blogging so if you stop by be sure to introduce yourself!
On another note, our actual Dane friend Honey has launched a 'Spectacular Slobber' contest where you are supposed to post some photos of your drooling skilz. Moose is quite a drooler but with the likes of the Relentlessly Huge Mango entering I don't see that we can be competitive without some serious practice!

Last night we snapped a pic of a brief double drool though it is hard to see (Drool is hard to photograph!) and by the time we got a good pick it was much less impressive! Definitely not his best showing.

I think maybe we are going to need some props if we are going to get an edge over the competition so tonight, after binging on some grass on our walk he came up with this one: It is a long piece of grass stuck in his drool that he carried for blocks! What he may lack in frothy volume of the bigger dogs, he makes up for with stickiness. Here is an old post showing the strength of his slobber! And some of you may recall his Wordless Wednesday post showcasing his special drool catcher. So we still have some work to do but I think with some props and good camera timing we might get some sort of honorable mention ;-).

Corgador fixation

Wally the Corgador has been named Readers Choice in the Herding Group of Mango Minster 2009! I am convinced that this will be the start of the Corgador as a boutique breed (though I don't encourage the practice) because what could be more perfect (aside from my Moose of course)?
Ever since I first laid eyes on Wally the Corgador I have been totally infatuated with his handsome face! I was thinking that a corgador might be the perfect match for Moose since the two could stack together like nesting tables when not in use as shown in my crude illustration! Plus Moose really loves other black labs AND small dogs so this would combine 2 of his favorites!

So I just googled Corgador and stumbled on this adorable video of a yellow Corgador almost as cute as Wally, but Wally is way too dignified for such antics!

Lookout for Moose

We are so excited that we finally got one of our new doors installed! There is another one waiting for tomorrow (behind schedule as always for handy man) but at least one is in and almost done, only waiting for a coat of paint.

It is a French door like the one in my office and Moose loves having another 'look out' he can use while lying down. Ever since the handy man left Moose has been planted in front of it! It has the exact same view of the boring front yard as the door in my office but he seems pretty enthralled by this new one. Maybe because everytime I walk by it I yell "yea" and clap my hands! You can see why we are so excited when you look at the old one. The one for the Kitchen is only half glass because I decided to leave room for a doggie door for you know who. It will be a pretty long time before I will be comfortable enough letting him come and go at will though so I have a feeling I am going to wish I had gotten full glass in the mean time. Oh well! The things we do for our hounds!
Voting is closed for Mango Minster 2009 and not sure who won but it was not my Moose (at least not the people's choice)! The competition was awesome though so I am sure it was hard to decide. Bolo's family voted Moose as 2nd place and Moose is honored! We had never seen Bolo before but man alive he is one sharp looking guy (pun intended). Thanks Bolo!

Moose the Bionic Labradog!

I know that sounds a bit dramatic but I am so proud of my so brave boy. I have always joked about his 'guarding' abilities since he barks ferociously but as soon as someone gets within petting range it is all waggle waggle waggle! But today I was working out in the yard when he started into his ferocious woofeling. I assumed it was the neighbor out in their own back yard but it did sound a little extra ferocious so I peeked around the corner to see some teenager scaling my 7ft fence! So I yelled at the kid and he said "oh I used to cut through here to get to my friend's house but now there is this big fence and I don't want to jump down because there is a huge dog". So I said "yeah? He doesn't really want you to either". My Moose was barking ferociously the whole time! So he jumped into the neighbor's yard and hopefully will never return. I know this hardly sounds like a big deal but it is the first time I have seen his actual protective nature. I suspect if the kid had jumped down that he would not have come to any harm but nice to know he was not inclined to find out!

So Voting is now OPEN over at Mango Minster 2009 where Moose is a count test ant in the Sporting group. I entered a pic of him in his fancy boy coat but for today we will call it his super hero cape! To Vote you have to go to Mango's blog and enter your vote in the comments section. There is some stiff competition so Moose would be honored to get your vote.

I know I promised some better pics of him looking handsome and sporting.

Obviously this is Moose looking Handsome!

Moose Phelps here showing off his freestyle (I hear there is a cell phone picture of him with a Kong... hope he does not get disqualified from Mango Minster!)

Here he is competing at Tugfest 2008, by far his favorite sport before he was sidelined with his knee injury!

So here he is Roaching Florida Keys Style (i.e. with a coconut in his mouth)!

Here he is demonstrating his long reach and flexibility when it comes to anything food related!

Don't forget voting closes at 5pm on Monday!!!

Drive Thru at the Moose Lodge

The Moose Lodge officially has a fenced yard now! In theory this would mean that Moose would have free reign over the vast 2400 square feet that is our back yard but of course he supposed to still be restricted to a leash while he is healing. The other day he was driving me nuts ringing the bell to go out while I was working so I caved and let him out by himself since I could mostly watch him through the window next to my desk. Having never been in the back yard alone at this place he was really puzzled when he figured out he could see and hear me through the window.

Then when he discovered that there were treats (aka crackatoos) on my desk he decided to place an order!

He was actually quite demanding and when I did not serve them up fast enough he decided to come in after them!

Of course he should not be doing anything this strenuous until he is healed so the drive-thru is closed until further notice!

For any of you readers who have not visited Mango's blog lately you should know that he is hosting Mango Minster 2009 Dog Show and Moose will be competing in the Sporting group on Monday Feb 9th. You will have to stop by and vote for my Moose! Th picture I submitted of him is not the greatest so on Monday I will post some truly awesome photos that show what a so handsome and sporting boy he is. Tune in to see and Vote early and often! ;-)
