Moose and I watched a show called 'Fat Pets' on Animal Planet and saw the saddest story about a woman in Britain who is loving her dog Bodell to death! She has a rottweiler named Bodell who she has fattened up to the horrifying weight of 203lbs! This poor dog looks like a pig and the owner thinks she is perfectly healthy because she gets "checkups at the vet". It is really easy to be angry at the owner but I think she has some emotional problems and could use a little help herself. Sad all around. She thinks Bodell is happy but I have known a few overweight dogs that lost weight and went from lethargic dogs to perky energetic dogs and to me that is when they are happy. There was also another Rottweiler on there who weighed in at 150lbs and not so surprisingly, was headed off to have When I adopted Moose he was 110lbs and the vet said he was not overweight (he is looong and tall for a labbie) but was on the upper end of a healthy weight so we got him down to about 108lbs and that was in September when his CCL injury was diagnosed and the vet said he was not at all overweight but loosing a few would help his recovery and reduce the chances that the other CCL would rupture and not harm his health. Well I am proud to say that at the last checkup on Thursday he was 104lbs! I am being extra careful while he is on such restricted activity. I believe he gets about 1000 calories a day and his meals include veggies to help make him feel full. I am so glad that he loves carrots so much and will eat green beans with no trouble! Of course if you ask him he is being starved half to death, but that has always been the case!
Echo thinks she's being starved to death as well!
ReplyDeleteI, too, am glad that they all love carrots as treats.
Overweight dogs like that rottie are so sad....did you read yesterday about the border collie who was 50 pounds overweight and frozen outside to the sidewalk in 6degree weather? Sickening!!
How awful! Poor fat little doggies! I think they need people who love them with kisses and hugs, not so many treats! And that poor border collie story was horrible!! She should endure the same!

I love how Moose is watching TV - Parker does that too! He gets green beans in his kibble in the evening to make him feel "full" - cause like most labs, he is always starving! I have reduced his kibble as well, but I cannot see how anyone could let their pet get up that much in weight, it's really sad.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Poor Rottie! We used to have a regular boarder, a Labrador who is much smaller in me but was as fat & heavy as that Rottweiler! Poor girl. She really has alot of trouble breathing, walking & even getting up from a down position. She looks like a table!!! My hoomans advised the owners to cut down her food becoz they hardly exercise. They just stay in the back kitchen & eat & eat all day long but the owners like her weight to be that way. Infact, they said I am too skinny & told my hoomans to feed me more! Ahhhh! I am already a little chubby! No way & it ain't gonna be good for my hips. IO think some owners just like their dogs being fat. Good to hear about your wonderful weight loss Moose!
