DWB News and the lure of liver

We were so sad to hear that Miss Snickers lost her fight today. We did not know her until the DWB community rallied in her support. It takes a special dog to stir up that kind of love. Be sure to stop by and leave a note for her family.

In other DWB news we promised Dozer that we would try to get out the vote for this month's Awesome Blog award. As always it is some stiff competition but since he is a two time member of the DWBK club (Dogs With Busted Knees) we feel he could use a win.

Also, I posted a topic/poll about Wordpress and Blogger over at the Bone Zone... if you care to weigh in, head on over and check it out (after you vote for Dozer of course!).

So here is some lighter fare for today...

When I make liver training treats for Moose he hangs out in the kitchen with a full blown case of 'crazy eye' (biggify for full effect).
It might be one of those things that only I can see on his face but this is the look he gets when he is in a euphoric trance!
When the treats are cooled and I start packing them up he starts his crazy loop of tricks to try to get one. The video shows how motivated he can be for liver!

UPDATE: The liver treats we use are originally Honey's recipe and I posted about them back in September. It is just cooked liver but for people like me who don't really cook or eat liver I needed Honey's instructions!

Also, Thanks so much for your thoughts on my Moose's romping abilities. The consensus was that if he was doing other less strenuous stuff and happy then he probably was not missing it and that made me feel better. Writing that post made me realize that his recovery has been sort of stalled at 85% for the past few months and reminded me that there are things I can do to get him stronger (leaning less). I am going to work on some weight bearing exercises and maybe re-evaluate the situation if I can get him closer to 100%. Thanks everyone!

  4. That was some impressive backing up Moose!
How do you make liver treats? Darwin loves the Merrick Liver treats I bought at a random store, but I can't seem to find them at any of the stores we normally go to.
    So sad about Miss Snickers.

  5. Moose,

We didn't know about Miss Snickers until we just checked your blog. Our hearts go out to her family.

Liver? Did you say liver. How do I get my mom to cook some up for me. I'd be an agility star and run lightning fast if I had liver.
Too bad it makes the house so stinky.

P.S. My sister Dinah Doodle is very good at grocery shopping from the pantry too!

  8. Hi Moose,

I've been reading your blog for a little while and thought I should formally introduce myself to you since I'm now official and have my own new blog.

My name is Kasha and I'm a Harlequin Great Dane. I found you though my friend Honey the Great Dane. I love to hear all about your adventures in sunny Florida...I wish I lived there!

So stop by and check me out...my mom is still learning this blog stuff but slowly we are getting a bit better at.

  9. Hey Moose-
We tto just met Snickers - what a special doggies she must have been , i bet her family misses her terribly. Hope they still have some things to be thankful for this week, with all the fun & memories they surely share.

Nice begging and obedience moves! Maybe if my mom cooked up some of those I would be as cooperative as you!! Worth a try, don't you think??
