We have not posted any Tricky T-days in awhile but Ludo posted an update on his trick so we thought we would do the same. Ludo was sabotaged by Pepe but Moose was sabotaged by none other than ME! We have not practiced this trick in ages (almost a month) AND I am not using the most constructive training techniques so we have a lot of work to do!
Just for giggles I started tonight by asking him to 'pick up his toys' while I was sitting across the room on the couch. This is the level we had worked up to a month ago and as any trainer knows it is a good idea to start a bit easier to set them up for success. I was curious to see what he would remember. I also did not give him any clues we were about to 'work' on this. He knew I had treats but that was it. I included his clueless wanderings at the start of the video so you can see what happened and why it is not productive! I dropped back to an easier step to jog his memory and it worked and he did pretty well, but as usual I skipped ahead faster than I should.
Poor Moose, sabotaged by his own trainer! In spite of that he is coming along and I intend to keep working on it more often over the next few weeks.
Moose! You are SO smart! Darwin does that sometimes on her own without prompting. Maybe we need to train her to do it! Im going to try it tonight!
ReplyDeleteThat was most excellent. Does he do windows?

OOoh! That was so gorgeous to watch!! :-) He is just so sweet (and I know I keep saying this but his mannerisms are just so "Dane-like"!! His head profile too - I could really see his "flews")
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed that he got it so quickly (the bit about taking it to the box AWAY from you) - and you could really see him working it out by himself! Clever boy!
We've been so naughty with the Tricky T-Day too - haven't posted anything in ages or taught any new tricks. We're like you - we started on the picking up stuff to put in a container (in our case, socks in a laundry basket) but that was over a month ago now and haven't practised it at all since! Wonder if she's forgotten it all!! :-) You'be prompted me to get out the clicker and practise our "work in progress" tricks again!

You certainly are patient with your mom. When mine tries to teach me something new I usually spend a lot of time howling, spinning, and head butting her rather than waste my time thinking.
ReplyDeleteShe claims she is trying to teach me to pick up ANYTHING! But I REFUSE! I will touch things with my snooter, that's it!
I am impressed by how calm you are. I am going to show that movie to Pee-Wee to inform him how a proper lab behaves.

My Mum got more excited than you did when he put the squeaky thing in the box. We were routing for him! We know all about having to go back steps. Sometimes mum's expect too much of us. hehe! Especially when it's toy things and we just wanna play!
ReplyDelete~lickies, Ludo
All along he WAS "picking up his toys" : )
ReplyDeleteHe is a smartie!!!!! Good work. Parker is saying do NOT show that to mom - eventhough we call it "clean up" here at home.
