Hellooo? Anyone home?
I know we have had lots of virtual visitors show up at this door (like sporty dogs and Max), but this is totally for Reals!

How about here... anyone home?
I could not believe Moose was sleeping and did not even wake up but it turns out he had gone to Seattle to visit Darwin and (I think his name is) Clive!

Maybe this door?
Lucky thing for this peacock because Moose would not have been all that happy about his visit. He has seen peacocks before when we were in Miami and did not seem fazed but then they were not on his doorstep!
Here is some video of the bird:
In case you are really wondering... I called Animal Control who seemed surprised and referred me to the Florida Keys Wild Bird Sanctuary and they told me that there is a colony living down in plantation (15 miles south of us) but this one must have gotten out from a neighbors yard (my neighbors have peacocks???). They said since he was not hurt to just wait and call back if he was not gone in a few days and they would come and move him to Plantation. When I lived in Miami there were some that wandered in my neighborhood and around coconut grove supposedly having escaped during Hurricane Andrew which damaged Miami Zoo and now living wild. But I have never heard of them in the Keys so was quite shocked and wanted to call around and take some photos before I let Moose scare him off! He wandered to the next yard over before Moose sauntered out of bed though... would have been an interesting encounter!

What a neat thing!!! I am sure you were stunned when you furst saw it. It would have scared the furs off me!! Glad that Moose was spared the job of Peacock eradication. Thanks for sharing this with us!!
ReplyDeletewoah that's crazy stuff! A peacock at your front door! That's something you don't see everyday!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Moose's visit to (I think his name is) Clive wore him out for peacock patrol! :)
I would have recognized Moose's door from miles away! This bird was for real though. Wow. I knew Moose was with Darwin, so I wasn't shocked he was missing today, but next time perhaps you can warn us
ReplyDeleteTwink!
The only category this could fall into is WTF Wednesday :) Sooo funny!

How cool is that? When we were in California to visit our son, they took us through a gorgeous area where there were peacocks walking all over the beautifully manicured lawns. It was fun to see, but I am not sure I would want them on my lawn.
ReplyDeleteA friend of our Mom's raises peacocks. They roost in her Live Oak Trees. The Mom says she would like to bring some home one day. ~AFSS
ReplyDeleteWooos! I wonder if it tastes like chicken.....

ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome peacock! Hope he or she will be ok!!
ReplyDeleteI like this idea, "WTF Wednesday"! I have some stories that would fit under that heading perfectly.
ReplyDeleteA peacock! How cool is that?
Pretty cool!! We had an equally strange visitor last summer - a 50-lb. snapping turtle knocked on our front door (I posted about it back in September). You just never know what's going to wander out of the great outdoors and into suburbia!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle & Brutus
What a pawsome visitor!

Awesome! I can't believe Moose slept through the whole visit!!
ReplyDeleteWTF indeed! That is one big bird to have just strolling about. I bet he left nommy poops for moose.
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,

Cool!!
ReplyDeleteHope it wasn't a wolf in peacocks clothing!!
Did it bring a basket of muffins for you?
Koda
Oooh, my old friends Animal Control! At least the peacock isn't rabid like some skunks I could mention may have been ...
ReplyDeleteGoodness... lots of peacock posts this past week! Several in the Meme from West Virginia Treasures on last weeks Show & Tail posts, and Mom did one on this week's Show and Tail on her Country Grammy's Walk With God blog. Her dad had one when she was a kid and she found some of the old 8 MM films of their "Pretty Boy" with his tail up in full splendor!
ReplyDeleteShe thinks it was really cool that you got to see one so close up like that, because she really loves them! WE on the other hand, would have probably chased it away just like Moose would have! The CCC

Maxdog in South Africa
Umm, why didn't you let him in? After all he knocked?
ReplyDeletewoof - Tucker
That's definitely a different kind of visitor!!
ReplyDeleteWoofs and Kisses!
OMD! I casnot decide if it look tasty or not? Mum just loves peacocks, but she pretty sure you would know if your neighbour had one cos they is LOUD!
ReplyDelete~lickies, Ludo
Wow. I can safely say that that is something I would never expect to see knocking at the door! And yes, if you had neighbors who had peacocks, you'd definitely hear them... At least until they became casserole! ;-)

Oh boy Moose - what the heck is that...??? I have never seen anything like that at my door - be safe!
ReplyDeleteOh Moose - am so sorry I've not come visiting for ages!! Hsin-Yi was away overseas at this Ian Dunbar conference and then when she came back, our Google Reader was on 164 and when it gets like that, she just becomes like an ostrich and tries to hide from it and pretend it isn't there...and now our Google Reader is on 241 - aaaarrrggghh!! So I have forced her to sit down and help me visit some friends otherwise it's going to be the dreaded "Mark all as read" button!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway - a peacock on your doorstep?! HOw cool is that!!! I have only seen them far away in parks and I thought they were quite scary! But my humans think they are beautiful - they just make a very ugly noise! :-)
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Ok, we have seen lots of things in our woods, but never a peacock.
ReplyDeleteHi Moose,
ReplyDeleteThat is one pawsome visitor! We can't believe he just showed up on your doorstep! All we ever get on our doorstep are icky birdie presents from our cat sista, but your birdie present is so much cooler!
