So I went out side and was mozying around the yard when I finally noticed... She left the side gate open (even though the huge sign says not to!)! That gate is never open so I assumed she left it that way because she was too tired to take me for walkies and that I should just go for one without her. So I did! I wandered around the neighbors yards for awhile. Pretty cool. My leash does not normally reach there so lots of new smells and things I had never peed on! After awhile I heard some whistling and momma calling my name. She had that panicky but trying to sound happy and excited sound. I was gonna go find her right after I smelled this one last thing. Oh but then there was something else to smell and of course the thing next to that that needed to be peed on. Then all of the sudden headlights! What was momma doin' in the Moose mobile? I was only a few houses away from the Mooselodge for pete's sake! Boy she is lazy. So she gets out and calls me and I give her the I'm busy talk to the paw look. But then she said the magic words... 'Want some chickens'? When ever she says that I always get chickens and even though the chickens were way back at the Mooselodge I knew she was good for it so I hopped in and we went home. I got a whole handful of chickens! She fussed over me like crazy. It was like I had been gone for days. Then she even took me for walkies! Not a bad day all in all.

I think you deserved those chickens. After all, you were nice enough to let momma sleep and take a walk by yourself.
ReplyDeleteWhat a heart-stopper! Charlie has never gotten out, but we had mother & son goldens once that were (briefly) escape artists and know the terror of the situation. Glad you found Moose fast!!
ReplyDeleteMoosers -- don't do that again! It's way more fun to walk with your mom!!
We thought you were going to be neglected the entire day and night. Mom needs to stop working so hard have a fun day. Benny & lily
ReplyDeleteWHEW!!! I'm glad you found him! I once had a puppy who ran away at night during a rain storm and was running through all the neighbor's back yards. I thought I would never find him!!
ReplyDeleteMoose, glad you had fun on your little adventure...
ReplyDeleteMoose momma, what a heart stopper! Yikes! Glad he didn't get very far and you were able to find him! Man.. what a nightmare. Good thing the chicken lure works like a charm!
Moose,
ReplyDeletesounds like an adventure for sure. I had one of those last fall one night about midnight cuz the gate was wide open, whats a girl to do then?? I walked...well, ran out and was out all night until 8Am. It also was raining all night so I looked like a drenched rat. I guess I dont know when to come in outta the rain. Some man found me and brought me home. I wasnt scared at all but my mom was. Now the gate has a nice lock on it sigh!!

ReplyDeleteOh Moosey, glad you made it home OK. How nice to have a mama who is so caring and worried about you when you wander off! Don't make a habit of it!!
ReplyDeleteThat would give our mom a heart attack for sure! Once Stella and I went for a stroll without the parents and boy did they panic!
ReplyDeleteGunther
Damn. Pour yourself a tall one? I have not had a dog escape in years, but can only imagine the terror.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I bet it was a blast for Moose. :)
What an awful feeling to see the gate open and no moose! Especially with him being all black and all. I bet he just thought he had a swell adventure while you were having heart failure. I got scared just reading it.
ReplyDeleteMango Momma
Oh, Phew!!! Glad that Moose has been recaptured! We doggies just don't know how to fend for ourselves out there anymore! Now stay put, ya here?? No more giving your momma heart attacks!!!

BTW, is that a Mandevilla on the porch?
Oh, momma! My momma feels you. She is not a bad momma either, she adores us, yet Linguini leaves every now and then. Nowadays I keep her home by herding her. Would you like me to come over?

Grammy is saying "Praise God" a lot lately, and she said it again when she read your post, Moose. Apparently, our people get bad pictures in their brains whenever we aren't in a "safe" place... like we have NO brains of our own! Still, with some of the silly things that humans do, it might not really be safe to be out where some other humans might cause you problems.
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad that you had enough sense to stay in a fairly safe area and that your Mom DIDN'T have a heart attack while looking for you. If for no other reason, THAT might be a good reason to stay home or at least where you can hear her call from home! OC and the CCC
Oh Moose, that would have given my Momma a heartattack. Good thing you were just sniffin and peein - not running in traffic.

Woof! Woof! I've done the same thing once n learned my lesson. It's scary ... got to be careful Moose. Glad you got back safe. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

ReplyDeleteBORN FREE! So glad that you are ok Moose and that your ape did not have a heart attack. We have had a few similar accidents, one time me and Wally got out an inadvertantly open front door while the ape was mowing the back yard and we totally ran away! Into the back yard! And one time the other ape left the back door open and the ma ape came home and panicked, only to find us in the back yard napping under the tree. Our ape goes ape when it happens!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I understand your yearning for freedom. And even more I understand your yearning for chickens.
Ethel Jean.
What a scare! So the secret word is "Chicken"?
ReplyDeleteMoose, sometime you have to weigh "my adventure" on one paw against "Mom's ability to breathe" on the other.
But we totally understand how that opportunity was too good to ignore!!! We're just glad you were visible against that white house and got home safely!
Wirey love,
Jake and Just Harry
Oh my goodness - you must have had such a horrible scare!!! Your poor thing! I can't imagine how you must have felt running out of the house, looking for him. But alls well that ends well so don't beat yourself up about it - these things happen!
ReplyDeleteIt's one reason I've always been very strict with Honey's rule about not crossing the gate threshold without permission - because I hope that if she is ever let out loose unattended, then hopefully she won't cross over herself because she's got it in her head that she mustn't. She is pretty good about obeying that rule and we actually "practise" it everyday in that after breakfast each morning, I leave her to potter around outside in the garden with the gate always wide open - I just keep an eye on her - but she is very good - will walk up to 1m from the gate and stand looking out but won't cross over, although of course, I don't trust her 100% but I figure that the more we practise, the more "bomb-proof" she will be.
Anyway, so maybe it might help if you practised some "gate rules" with Moose? (don't know if you saw but I posted a while back a video showing how I "re-trained" the rules with Honey in our new home) - Honey always has to wait at the gate threshhold and not cross over unless she gets the release word "OK!" from us - not saying this woudl stop Moose wandering but if you practise and enforce it a lot, it might just make him think twice or hesitate long enough for you to realise the situation! :-)
