Signs, signs, everywhere signs!

Moose and I are loving our fenced yard but due to some perhaps sloppy work by the handyman the gates sometimes don't automatically latch the way they should so that when people come and go the gates get left open 8-( This led to a heart stopping 10 minute search for my loose Moose the other day and fortunately I found my neighbor trying to corral him in her car port... phew! Some of you regular visitors may also recall last week that we had an unwanted visitor climbing the fence.

After these 2 incidents I decided to get some signs that will:
  1. Let people know that there is a dog living here to discourage the uninvited
  2. Remind people to close the gate when they do come in.
So for the back side of the fence that is only visible to ne'er-do-well teenagers I got some cheap signs at the hardware store. They had some that said 'Bad Dog' but I just could not bring myself to get that one so hopefully 'Beware' will be enough...
For the visible parts of the yard I wanted something a little nicer looking and longer lasting though.

So after looking high and low all over the interweb I stumbled onto the World Famous Sign Company with exactly what I was looking for and more! I think the sign says it all! I got this big yellow one for the inside of one of the gates. Isn't it AWESOME? The store will put any kind of dog or animal you want on the sign, they have silhouette's for practically everything (the default sign says pygmy goats at play) and I bet you could even get one that says 'Corgador at Play'!
For the outside of the 2 gates I got a more subdued version since you can see the gates from the street I wanted something a little less noticeable. I also prefer that outsiders know there is a dog and take it a bit more seriously whereas it is hard to convince an intruder that there is 'guard' dog behind the gate with the 'Moose at Play' sign. But, for the inside of the yard it is perfect since it is hard to ignore! Hee Hee! If anyone out there is interested in a sign of ANY kind, definitely check out the World Famous Sign Company's ebay store. If you want something and don't see it listed, just contact the seller. I got answers really fast and she was really helpful (even punched holes in them for me!). I ordered them Wednesday evening and they got here today!

  1. Think the 'Moose @ play' sign is inspired.

  3. I hope those signs help. We have the same problem with our gates and Momma is totally insane about checking them all the time lest we have a jail break (we've gotten out a couple of times and its scary).

  5. Oh those are great signs! I hope that you do not give your mom a heart attack, Moose. I ran away once, but it was actually because I was trying to find my ma ape who had gone to work. She needs a "Beware of Mama's Boy" sign!

  6. PS. I saw your corgador fixation post and it made me laugh. My biggest fixation is---black labs! If I ever met Moose I would probably follow him around obsessively. We would make quite a pair! Are you noisy? Because I definitely would never leave you alone!

  7. Hello Moose and Moose's Mom,
I am new to blogging and I love to read about Moose adventures. I felt compelled to write because we had similar issues such as foot traffic, latches, etc when we had a fence installed at our new house a few years ago. I highly recommend a hasp latch which can be place on the outside. It consists of a piece that slides into a face plate and then turns. It can also be locked with a pad lock if necessary. (We had issues with some neighborhood teenagers who thought it was funny to open our gate and then watch us frantically search for our labbies)I thought I would mention this because it has really helped with making sure our gates stay closed as the original latches that were installed opened very easy or are easy to forget to latch.I hope this bit of advice helps. I would hate to hear Moose's Mom is out there frantically searching for her baby!

  9. I love the Moose at Play sign - it's great! I always feel so sorry for the dogs that have to live with 'Bad Dog' signs on their fences.

    See ya!

  11. Found your blog thru Zoo Crew. I LOVE your moose sign! We originally wanted a male dane to name Moose, but ended up with a female we named Behr (pronounced bear). Long story. We have bear signs on our gate :)

    Wow, your lab is huge!

I'll be back. Hope it's ok to add a link for your blog.
