Hide-n-seek

Moose has started playing hide-n-seek with me lately. I am pretty sure some memo went out to all labradogs because his buddy Parker is doing it too. The advanced version of this game is played by hiding in plain sight and Moose does this by lying on the dark brown couch in the living room that is kinda dark when the lights aren't on. He sits there quiet as a church Moose while I wander around looking for him in his usual spots. Is he on his bed in the foyer? no! How about the couch in the office? no! How about my bedroom? no! All of this checking involves me walking right by him through the living room two or three times without even so much as a peep from him! I know you are thinking he looks pretty obvious sitting there but that is because of the flash. Without the flash it looks like this:

He has only started sleeping up there in the last week so I guess this is his new usual spot! Still it cracks me up when I finally find a set of eyes staring at me wondering what I am looking for! Such a goof!

In other news... Some of you may remember Moose's new Foster Cousin Jake who was being fostered by my brother way up north? Well he is in the process of being adopterated... by none other than my brother!

Welcome to the family Cousin Jake!

  2. Jake is such a beautiful puppy! I'm glad he found a home.

I think Jack is trying to disappear by shedding as much hair as possible. At least it looks that way from the hair I find when I sweep under the couch!

  6. Me and Moose have a secret bond that extends across the US/Canadian border....We are now in the secret service, I have recruited Moose and am working on Jack. Maybe we can get Jake involved next...where's he located.

  7. So puppy love runs in your family?

That is nice. My humans don't trust people who don't like dogs.

I wish I could blend into the furniture like that.

  11. I am actually worried about little Dexter's knee. He runs around fine, but sometimes when he puts weight on it he pulls it right back up and does the bunny hop thing. On Monday he was not using it at all.

The vet said it didn't have the typical mobility signs of the dreaded knee problems. He did notice that Dex's lower spine was tender. Not much I can do but watch and wait. I do try to discourage him from some of his more aerobatic moves, but its hard.

Even playing fetch he would rather contort himself in the air to catch it on the fly than just chase.

When he first hurt his leg I went back and read Moose's whole surgery sage.

  12. Ha! Ha! Your hide-n-seek story is funny! Don't think I could ever "hide in plain sight" even in the dark...there is just too much of me to hide!!! (and I'm usually stupid enough to lie somewhere where people will trip over me!)

Hey - I just wanted to answer your question about capturing the bow - YES, you can do that! My human forgot to mention that in the video but that is a great way to capturing and shaping that trick. She does a lot of that with me (that's how I learnt to shake my head on command - she just waited till after I drank water or had a bath or had been walking in the rain and clicked & treated when I shook myself...but it did take MONTHS before I caught on!!)

I don't think it's a problem learning the bow for big dogs - it's more about whether we need to go all the way to the floor so that our elbows are resting on the floor...like little dogs do. That might be a bit hard on us - especially for those with a long back like me! - but as you say, we stretch anyway and it's the same position so it's fine to teach it to us. I like doing bows - I always start offering them a lot when I see the treats come out! But Hsin-Yi lets me get away with just bending 1/2 way...

Happy training and DO PLEASE post videos of your training sessions and let me know!
