I decided that Moose's brain game was a little too easy for him so to make it a little harder I cut the bottom off the tennis balls. This makes it harder to tell which ball has a treat under it and harder to get the ball out of the cups too. At least a little. He still has no trouble with it but if it is way too easy for your pup it might slow him down a little. I also like that the tennis balls don't roll off under the sofa too! If you cut them in half it is extra hard for big beaked dogs though so don't go too far!
I let his friend Mandrae try it too but she is much smaller (45lbs?) and just not inclined to pick things up with her mouth so it was a little too hard for her. To make it easier I made a brain game for her that used a mini-muffin pan, some mini tennis balls and ping pong balls.
Moose is absolutely fascinated by the mini tennis balls so I have to pick them up right away. He does not generally swallow things but ping pong balls and big dogs do not mix so if you try using them for smaller doggies keep an eye on any labradog-sized beasts you might have!
As you might have noticed from the fuzz on the black rug in the video, it was time for Mandrae to be furminated! She was the most cooperative pup I have ever met! I am sure I could get more but did not want to push it!
p.s. in case you did not see our first post on the brain game, I am not the clever one who came up with this! I just got the idea from Honey who got it from somewhere...
Oooh, Moose - your human is so creative and so good about making an effort to make things more interesting and entertaining for you! I think from watching the video - even if you didn't find it super hard - you were still enjoying yourself LOTS! :-)
Wooos Moose, so sorry woo have to work for the treats, but mom makes me do some pretty unusual things for food too. sigh... what we do for food! -Kira The BeaWootiful
I love the mini cupcake pan version! It's another rainy night here so Im thinking it may be a brain game night for Darwin! I've learned to not use her favorite treats (merrick lamb treats) cause she'll only eat those and give up on the game after that.
What an absolutely FANTASTIC idea!!!....Thank you SO much! We will be out soon to purchase our tennis balls and start creating. You are a star!!! (I suppose it's important to to keep the whole lot 'away' from them when the game is over...our dogs love stripping the lining off tennis balls) Max's mom in SA
You two play so well close together. Moose! I think you must have figured out that game. Momma says I still do not really understand and just get the goodies by luck.
Slobbers, Mango
P.S. Do you have room at your house for a cone monster? I'm just asking because I am not really pleased having one here.
Hi, Moose... Mom had me sniff my way over here from Dozer's blog to find out about some of your brain games. We are doing everything we can to stimulate our puppies' brains and keep them occupied. They've outgrown their puppy playground with all of it's mini agilities activities, and Mom wants to know more about the jug tug thing that Dozer mentioned. This game is pretty good too, and we'll have to try it! Thanks for sharing your ideas!
Jack just wanted to eat the balls! :)
ReplyDeleteawesome Moose. We ADORE little tennis balls. I wonder when we will be playing this game
