Happy two-year knee-versary!

Two years ago today I got a new knee! I can't believe it has been two years. It has mostly been a good thing but some of you know I did something wonky to my leg a few months ago and although it is doing better it is still not 100%. Still I know I am better than I would have been with my old knee and even though momma's bank account is a bit emptier she is glad they fixed it too! You can see when I sit it still sticks out to the side.
Paws crossed my other knee will hold out. Momma says that if I keep standing on it more than the new knee (see how that leg is kinda out to the side?) that I might break it too so we are working on getting me stronger.

You can see in this photo from over my head that my back looks twisty when I stand because all my labrabutt weight is on my other leg. Momma says she got me a brand new knee and I should go ahead and use it already!
To work on this we have been doing 'puppy pushups' where I sit and stand lots of times in a row but momma is not good about remembering to do them often. Walkies are great too though. The thing is momma says it is best to take lots of short walkies through the day rather than one long. Sounds good right? The problem is she gets all busy at the 'puter and forgets what time it is and so there is one short walk instead. Bad momma!
Another thing that we do is tugging which is awesome. I am not supposed to jerk around though just pull back and so that is what we do a couple of times a day. If momma forgets this one I remind her though, it is one of my favoritest things to do!
Oh and remember how I got a new Kuranda bed and I was saying that it was kinda wobbly? Well momma learned that standing on wobbly things can be good exercise for leg muscles so it might even be good for that too!
When I stand on it, which I love to do while I eat my supper, I am actually exercising! Too bad momma can't figure out some way to exercise while she eats!

We have lots of work to do to get me moving right but hopefully we can do it little bits at a time!

  1. Lots of short walks and that tug game sound like fun to us. We hope you can get that knee to be stronger, you sure don't want to have trouble with the other one too.

  2. We sure hope you leg is okay and you feel better after all that exercise. Please let me know when you figure out how your mom can eat and get exercise at the same time. I think my mom could use that plan. Please don't tell her. I will just quietily sit it on the coffee table and maybe she will find it herself!

  3. Don't be shy about letting Momma know when you need to exercise! It's important to keep limber.

  5. Being new, we didn't know you had a bionic knee. Most important to do the exercise thing. You wouldn't look cool having to walk with a cane or a walker - or a back brace. Sounds like your physical therapist is a bit lax. Maybe she could get an assistant? Do they have those hydrotherapy lap pools for doggies where you are? Could you play tug with one of those lovely ladies who appear in your blog from time to time? Maybe your mom could set up one of those horse walking things in your yard, where you walk around in circles for 30 minutes or so? With like a steak or a nice bone tied up just in front of your nose to help motivate you? Just trying to be helpful. Keep working it, Senor Moose.

  6. Happy Knee-versay, Moose! :-) Sounds like you're doing all the right things! HJave you tried hydrotherapy? That's supposed to be great for doggies who have 'mobility' issues or just for helping them develop stronger muscles, without putting too much pressure on joints coz the water takes all the weight. You know I had a fantastic time when I tried it out in Auckland!

  7. MOOSE! I cannot believe it has been two years already. Mind your mom and do your physical therapies, OK? Maybe you need one of those crazy exercise balls that PeeWee uses.
