Momma & I have not met him but we know what it is like fostering one dog and to have 6 in addition to your own must mean he is an awesome dude. We feel terrible for the foster parent and donated a little of my bone monies to a fund to help him get on his feet again. I know money is tight for lots of folks right now but if you would like to donate even a couple of bucks, the fund is here.

| Fire Momma! Help! Put it out! |
1. Check your smoke detectors often! Personally, as a chicken hound who gets very 'alarmed' by the sound, I have asked momma to test it while I am outside but she told me to suck it up because she is pretty forgetful and better just do it while she is thinking about it.
2. Have an escape plan for all of your family members and a meeting place outside. Momma is worried she won't have a leash and I will bolt because I am scared so she is thinking on a plan for that (what can I say, she is a worrier!).
3. Fire extinguishers! Of course you should always call 911 and if it is more than a small contained fire, just get out. Also, they only help if they are immediately accessible and you know how and when to use them. When in doubt, get out!
4. You can get these free stickers from ASPCA that let the firefighters know there are doggies in the house. Momma got one ages ago but never put it up until today! So lazy!
5. Does your local fire department have pet oxygen masks? Some communities have them through donations. Momma is gonna find out if our fire fighters have them and if not she is gonna try to get some neighbors to pitch in for them. You should ask your local fire department too. If they need them, then maybe you can help get some for use by your local department (link opens pdf).
If you have any other helpful tips as far as keeping us dogs safe in the event of fire please share!

We have those stickers on our estate. Hopefully they will never be needed. My uncle is a volunteer fire fighter and he always goes in for the animals if at all possible.

It's a big worry of mine too, so thank you for the tips!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my good friends, and one of the best fosters New Hope Dog Rescue has had a kitchen fire last spring. It started while she was out, running to the grocery store and while her house was saved (but needed extensive renos), and her dogs were also saved, her foster dog didn't make it. Devastating!! So, anyway, my thoughts and prayers for your friend who lost his house and foster- it's such a difficult time, I am sure!!

Oh, that is so scary! Our ma ape is really paranoid about this stuff, too. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad for that Chris guy who sounds like he's so awesome he could be an honorary dog. We will do what we can.
Oh my goodness very scary. We have a sticker on our windows too

I've never thought about pet oxygen masks. I think I'm gonna do some calling myself and check on this! Thank you for the head's up!
ReplyDeleteScary indeed. This was a super duper PSA!!! THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteVery sad story...thank you for this informative post!
ReplyDeletesuch a sad story. That poor guy has lost so much!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about this recently (I was reading a blog and the woman had lost her whole house to a fire) and I was thinking how we live in a condo (granted on the first floor, but our backside is over an open garage so it's sort of a second level) and how would we get Darwin out if there was a fire at the front door. Jason says we could jump off the balcony down to the garage, but I dont think we could do the same for Darwin. Makes me so nervous!
I didnt know they made pet oxygen masks...
I just heard something about pet oxygen masks last week for the very first time. Definitely gotta check into this. Thanks for the safety reminders, and thank the Lord those pups were rescued.
ReplyDeleteKitty and Coco
Hi Moose - great post! MY human is also always talking about getting those stickers but never getting round to it! Lazy too! This will remind her now.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad about the foster doggie who died and the human who lost his home but I'm glad they were able to help all the other doggies!
